ECOOP 2002 will take place at the premises of the ETSI Informática (School of Informatics) of the University of Málaga, which is located at the "Teatinos" University campus.
By bus The campus can be easily reached by bus. Public buses from lines 8, 20 and 22 take you to the campus from the city center (main bus stop: "Alameda Principal"). Average commuting time is about 20 minutes from the city center, and buses run every 15 minutes. Buses are also available from Torremolinos to the city center, for those of you that decide to stay at any of the Torremolinos hotels. They usually take 30 minutes from the center of Torremolinos to Málaga downtown. There is also a very convenient train that connects Torremolinos and the city center of Málaga, that runs every 30 minutes and takes about 20 minutes. In addition to the public buses, there will be buses provided by the organization to take ECOOP participants from the hotels to the conference center in the mornings, and from the University back to the hotels after the daily events. Time tables for those buses will be available at all hotels. By car Taking you own car, or hiring one, is a sensible option if you plan to stay around before or after the conference, and visit the rest of Málaga province and Andalucía (Granada, Córdoba, Sevilla, ...). By taxi Taxis are not very expensive in Málaga, and they may become a good option to move around. The usual taxi fare for taking you from the city center to the University campus (or the other way round) is about €6 (the trip takes 15 minutes aprox). To and from Torremolinos it becomes about €12 (20 minutes). Taxi considerations Taxis are a very convenient way for moving around in Málaga, specially if you are in a hurry, or get lost. Taxi drivers are accustomed to tourists and you do not have to worry too much about they ripping you off (which happens very rarely, despite all negative publicity about this). However, some considerations must always be taken into account:
Important: Should you have any problems with taxis, do not worry. Simply ask for a receipt to the taxi driver that specifies its license number, the origin and destination of the trip, the car plate number, and the fare amount. Bring the receipt to the ECOOP registration desk. We'll deal with it. You are here to enjoy the conference, so we do not want anything disturb your visit. Same applies for any other trouble or problems you may have during your visit. Let us know and we'll deal with them.
Connections to the airport. Málaga airport is one of the busiest in Europe. It moves more than 9 million people every year. There is a bus connecting the airport with the city center, that runs every hour. However, taxis are the easiest and most convenient transportation method. The fare from the airport to and from the city center is less than €12 (excluding extras: Sundays, late at night, extra baggage, etc). Taxis are also the recommended option for reaching Torremolinos (about €18).
